Extended Die Lock Nuts
Ever since I started reloading on multiple occasions I had dies becoming lose and required resetting and re-calibrating of charged, OAL, crimp, etc. Leaving aside underlying reasons, I wanted to find solutions. I started experimenting with designing and machining of my own locking nuts with objective to being able to install then both on top and underneath of the tool head, and locking dies (where possible) with two nuts. My first version was a square nut with very tight 7/8-14 threads. I had very limited number of these nuts made, sent them too few of my friends-reloaders. Feedback wasn’t great. It wasn’t even in category of good by my standards. Even though I still use all those square nuts on my tool heads, it wasn’t something that can be beneficial for production run.
After my recent start of using CNC machined tool heads (UniqueTek / Whidden and Jofer USA) for XL650/750 presses, I found that these tool heads have lesser thickness than Dillon’s OEM ones. Subsequently it would not be possible to install flat nuts at the bottom of the tool head as they would interfere with frame on all stations except station 4. That drove me to designing Lock Nuts that address the above issue.
I’m offering this design for sale. It is specific to Dillon XL650/750 and geared towards locking dies from the underneath of the tool head (where possible), mostly for sizing, crimping and powder drop station. However same nuts can be used on the top of the tool heads of any press. (I use them on my 1050 presses as well). These nuts have full threads, and hold better than Dillon OEM ones.
